Need help with bf am I being crazy?

So, I broke up with my (ex) boyfriend about a week and a half ago. I'm in college an hour away from where he is living with his parents going to a community college. One of the many reasons that I broke up with him was that he had started getting really jealous of guys that I found attractive. I had a Taylor Launter poster on my wall that my roommate got from a magazine and she wanted it on the walls and there was more free wall space on my side of the room than her side, so we put it up on my side. Well, the ex was staying the weekend here and when I was in the shower, he drew a Hitler mustache, blacked out a tooth and colored in the whites of the poster's eyes with a sharpie. I felt really disrespected because he was joking about doing it before he did it because he thought it would be funny even after I told him that I would be mad. So I took that poster down. And then I had a big blank white boring spot on my wall. I printed pictures up of Dean and Sam Winchester from the show Supernatural to fill that spot. My boyfriend really wasn't happy that I decided to put up people I found attractive on my walls. I asked a question here and people said I should put up pictures of my boyfriend on my walls. But he would NEVER let me take pictures. I think the last time I was able to get a picture of him was on my birthday over 9 months ago. So my ex would get jealous of ANYONE that I found attractive, even though I'll never even meet them or they are fictional characters in a TV show.

So I broke up with him and he was completely heartbroken and "wasn't expecting it" (we have been almost constant fighting for the last 3 months and it was always because I wasn't happy with a part of our relationship that he wouldn't put effort into changing). I'm not sorry I broke up with him, but I am sorry that I hurt him as much as I did. I've tried to cut off communication with him, but I wanted to know how he was doing. So I looked up his Y!A profile. I was looking through questions he had answered and there was one about a girl's boyfriend who would always call some football team's cheerleaders hot or sexy. My ex's answer was something about how guys will look no matter what their relationship status is. I never had a problem with him looking and he really would look. I don't know how many times he told me that he would pause movies in certain spots because he could see some actress' boob or something like that. I wouldn't have cared if he put playboys up on his walls. I was comfortable with the fact that he was my boyfriend and he wouldn't cheat on me and looking doesn't do anything bad.

So my question is, why do some/most guys think that it's okay to look at other women when they are in a relationship, but don't want their girlfriend looking at other guys? And when I say looking, I mean just appreciating the way they look, not gawking at them.

Plain and simple he is really insecure, however I was on his side when I first started reading thinking that you were one of those girls who constantly fawn/gawk over the hot guys in hollywood because if you did then it would get annoying to me afterall if I was your bf. But since you said you merely appreciate good looking people then thats fine, You need to look inside yourself and ask whether appreciate "hot" guys too much because that wouldmake any boyfried feel like thats the image that he has to attain to feel appreciated by you. But in closing we all know girls look just as much as guys look although they wont admit it. I would be a fool to think that my gf doesnt look at other guys too but im fine with it.
